The Bindhyabasini Temple,is located in Pokhara, Nepal and is one of the most ancient temples in the region. Dedicated to Maa Kali, who is worshipped here in her form as Maa Bhagwati, this temple holds immense religious and cultural significance. Situated on a hilltop, the temple offers panoramic views of the city and the majestic Annapurna Range, making it a spiritual as well as a scenic retreat.
It is believed that the King of Kaski, Siddhi Narayan Malla, had a divine dream in which Maa Bhagwati appeared and instructed him to establish a temple in her honor. The king, filled with devotion and gratitude, sent his men to Bindhyachal, a region in Uttar Pradesh, India, to bring back the deity's idol.
As the king’s men journeyed back with the idol of Maa Bindhyabasini, they decided to camp for a night at a specific spot. The next day, when they tried to lift the idol to continue their journey, the idol had become so heavy that they could not move it, no matter how hard they tried. Realizing this was the divine will of Maa Bhagwati, the king ordered the construction of the temple at that exact spot.
Since then, the Bindhyabasini Temple has become a significant pilgrimage site, drawing devotees from all over Nepal and beyond. It is said that Maa Kali herself chose this location to reside, and the temple is now one of the most important shrines in Pokhara.
