Long ago, a fearsome demon named Vritrasura began terrorizing the sages, disrupting their meditations and causing havoc. The sages, unable to withstand the harassment, sought the help of Lord Indra, the king of the gods. Indra, along with the sages, approached Lord Vishnu for guidance. Vishnu revealed that Vritrasura could only be defeated by a weapon made from the bones of the great sage Dadhichi.
Faced with this divine instruction, Indra went to Sage Dadhichi and humbly requested him to donate his bones. Dadhichi, known for his immense wisdom and selflessness, agreed but had one condition. He wished to bathe in the holy waters of all the pilgrimage sites (teerths) before offering his bones.
Indra, realizing that this would take too long, sought Vishnu’s help once again. Upon Vishnu’s command, the waters of all the holy places were brought to one location, creating the sacred Dadhichi Kund. After bathing in the kund, Sage Dadhichi fulfilled his promise by offering his bones, which were then used to forge the powerful Vajra, a divine weapon. With this Vajra, Indra was able to defeat Vritrasura, restoring peace to the world.

The Importance of Dadhichi Kund

Since the waters of all pilgrimage sites were collected in Dadhichi Kund, it is believed that bathing in this pond grants the same merits as visiting all the sacred places across India. This divine connection is what gives Mishrikh its name, meaning "a mixture of all pilgrimages."
Pilgrims come from far and wide to bathe in the holy waters of Dadhichi Kund, seeking spiritual purification and the blessings of Sage Dadhichi. The act of bathing here is said to bestow the virtues of all the teerths, making it one of the most sacred places in the region.
