Story of Lalita Devi Shakti Peetha, Naimisharanya Dham
The Lalita Devi Shakti Peetha is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in Naimisharanya Dham in Uttar Pradesh. It is believed to be the sacred site where the heart of Goddess Sati fell, making it a significant pilgrimage destination for devotees of Shakti.
The story of the Lalita Devi Shakti Peetha is rooted in the ancient Hindu myth of Goddess Sati and her self-immolation. According to legend, when King Daksha organized a grand yagna, he intentionally did not invite his son-in-law, Lord Shiva, leading to Sati's humiliation. Unable to bear the insult to her husband, Sati jumped into the sacrificial fire and ended her life.
When Lord Shiva learned of Sati's death, he was filled with immense grief and rage. Carrying Sati's lifeless body, he began his destructive Tandava, causing chaos in the universe. To calm Shiva and prevent further destruction, Lord Vishnu used his Sudarshan Chakra to dismember Sati's body into several parts, which fell to different locations on Earth. These places became sacred Shakti Peethas.
It is believed that Sati's heart fell at Naimisharanya, and the Lalita Devi Shakti Peetha was established there, making it a site of immense spiritual significance.
The Chakratirth Connection
In addition to being a Shakti Peetha, the temple holds further significance due to the Chakratirth, a sacred pond located nearby. Legend has it that when Lord Brahma marked Naimisharanya as a sacred spot, an uncontrollable flow of water emerged from the Earth. To calm the water and make the land suitable for meditation and penance, Maa Lalita Devi appeared and controlled the water’s flow.
Since then, pilgrims bathe in the holy waters of Chakratirth before offering their prayers at the Lalita Devi Temple. It is believed that this ritual purifies the soul and prepares the devotee for blessings from the Goddess.

By Air: The nearest airport is Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow, about 110 kilometers from Naimisharanya. From the airport, taxis and buses are available to reach the temple.
By Train: The nearest railway station is Sitapur Junction, located about 30 kilometers from the temple. From Sitapur, local transport options like taxis and buses can take you to Naimisharanya.
By Road: The temple is well-connected by road, and can be easily reached from nearby cities like Lucknow and Sitapur. Regular buses and private taxis are available to reach the temple.
