Story of Rudravart Mahadeva in Chakratirth, Uttar Pradesh
Dedicated to Lord Shiva Rudravart Mahadev Tirth also known as Rudravart Kund is located along the banks of the sacred Gomti River in the Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh.
The temple is deeply rooted in mythological stories. It is said that Lord Shiva, one of the principal deities of Hinduism, resides in the Patal Lok (the underworld) at this sacred spot. Unlike many other temples where the deity is housed in a sanctum, here Lord Shiva’s presence is believed to be beneath the waters of the Rudravart Kund, a sacred pond connected to the temple.
Legend has it that when devotees chant “Om Namah Shivaya” and offer fruits, milk, and belpatra (leaves sacred to Lord Shiva) into the river, these offerings are directly accepted by Shiva. It is believed that the items which sink into the water are accepted by the deity, while those that return to the surface are considered prasad (blessed offerings) for the devotees.
