Story of Bhooteshwar Nath Mandir
Bhooteshwar Nath Mandir is located in the spiritual heart of Naimisharanya Dham, in Sitapur district, Uttar Pradesh. The temple is dedicated to Lors Shiva who is considered the Kotwal (protector) of Naimisharanya.
The legend of Bhooteshwar Nath dates back to when Lord Brahma was conducting the creation of the universe. It is said that Brahma created a divine chakra and instructed the sages to follow it. As the chakra descended on Earth, it cut through the land and started sinking, causing an uncontrolled flow of water from the ground. To control the surge, Maa Sati incarnated as Lalita Devi, holding a Shivalinga in her hand.
It is believed that Brahma himself established this Shivalinga, which became the central deity of Bhooteshwar Nath Mandir. From that day, Lord Shiva has protected Naimisharanya and its surroundings as the Kotwal (chief guardian) of the Chakratirth and this holy land.
Unique Shiva Idol at Bhooteshwar Nath
One of the most fascinating aspects of the Bhooteshwar Nath Mandir is the belief that the idol of Lord Shiva changes forms three times a day.
Morning: Lord Shiva appears in a child-like form, representing innocence and new beginnings.
Midday: Shiva’s form becomes fierce and powerful, symbolizing his role as the destroyer of evil.
Evening: By night, the idol takes on a calm and peaceful form, signifying serenity and inner peace.
This unique transformation makes the temple a site of continuous devotion, as pilgrims come to witness these changes throughout the day.

By Air: The nearest airport is Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow, located about 110 kilometers from Naimisharanya Dham. Taxis and buses are available from the airport to Sitapur.
By Train: The nearest railway station is Sitapur Junction, about 30 kilometers from the temple. From Sitapur, you can hire local transport to reach the temple.
By Road: Bhooteshwar Nath Mandir is well-connected by road and can be reached easily from Lucknow, Sitapur, and other nearby cities. State buses and private taxis are available for pilgrims visiting the temple.
